Mixed Grit

February 1, 2019 marked the official launch of my new endeavor, the Mixed Grit project.

Mixed Grit is a unique format, collaborative, stone lithograph print trade comprised of small curated groupings of select artists from across the nation.

Felicia Cannon

It’s not every day Felicia Cannon is in town and surprise visits the shop; but when she does, you hover near a press for an hour while talking all things print. After years of being a fan of her art I finally had the opportunity to meet Felicia at last weekend’s MAPC conference. She’s even more badass than I expected!

Mid America Print Councel - panel discussion

Last week I attended my first Mid America Print Councel (MAPC) conference. This biennial conference was held in Laramie, WY at the University of Wyoming. What a spectacular event! More accessible and low key than the annual SGCI conference.

I was invited to participate in a panel discussion: Complex Utopias: Dialogues with Community Printshops. Representatives from print studios across the country were brought together to discuss the cultural and social dynamics in community printshops.

The Printed Image 7

One of my monoprint lithographs, Blue-Collar Sugar 9, has been selected into the exhibit The Printed Image 7 at the Sabatini Gallery in Topeka, KS. The exhibit was curated by Melanie Yazzie, professor and Head of Printmaking in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Stand Out Prints 2018

It’s an honor to be included in the exhibit Stand Out Prints 2018 at the Highpoint Center for Printmaking in Minneapolis, MN. Juror, Crawford Alexander Mann III, Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, selected one of my lithographs from over 900 prints submitted for consideration.

This exhibition is on view: September 7, 2018 through October 6, 2018.

Miles Nervine letterpress proofing press

I bought a Miles Nervine galley proofing press at auction. Manufactured c. 1900. It had the original felt blanket glued to the drum. The blanket was in poor condition and needed to be discarded. I decided to replace it by stitching an offset blanket around the iron drum.

Rethinking Urbanism at RedLine

One of my monoprint lithographs from the Blue-Collar Sugar series has been selected into RedLine’s 5th-Annual Juried exhibition Rethinking Urbanism. The exhibit was curated by RedLine’s Executive Director, Louise Martorano.

On view: June 22, 2018 through July 22, 2018

The works featured in Rethinking Urbanism explore the social, cultural and political complexities of urban space. These complexities emerge in part through abstracted representations of density as with the work of Ramona Freeman, or the distillation of color that conveys a sense of bleakness as with Frank Lucero's "Traces of our Hands." The urban aesthetic and tone that connect the selected works all contribute to the defining of a metropolis-state. In this case, that definition takes shape in multiples and en masse, but with curiously a lack of human representation thus conveying a sense of urban isolationism rather than shared or communal space.

Open Portfolio

Yesterday was the Open Portfolio event for MoPrint 2018. I was one of forty artists taking part in this energetic event that was hosted by RedLine. I can’t thank RedLine enough for their support of the arts in Denver.

Printmaking: The Digital Debate

Yesterday I was a participant in a MoPrint 2018 panel discussion, held at the McNichol’s Civic Center Building. The topic was Printmaking: The Digital Debate, organized and moderated by master printer Mark Lunning (Open Press).
